Linky-linky
I was browsing the DDO forums in my sickened state and came across this gem. Apparently, I'm not the only one who enjoys being immersed in the online world I choose to game in. Fortunately, someone out there had the time and impetus to create a sort of "Idiot's Guide" for DDO players who want to know more about Eberron (the MMORPG is set in Stormreach, a port of the continent of Xendrik, for which an actual RPG book will be released soon so expect to visit it at some point after I start DMing again).
Check it out, if you like. It squeezes a whooole lot of information scattered throughout the Eberron Campaign Setting book & other sources into a few posts. I haven't checked any of the Q&As that happen after the original post(s), but I'm sure there is flavorful info there, too.
Qiang, if you could linkify the above address, I would greatly appreciate it.
Ok, back to being sick.

Completely off topic, but--are we all going to pony up for webcams so we can continue to game long-distance? Or are we going to go DDO?
38 leaves April-ish, Qiang leaves early June, and Brenys bails at the end of June (if her spawn manages to pass her core curriculum).
I'm not exactly interested in finding new playmates, but I'm nowhere near gamed-out.
I'm up for DDO if we can get everyone on board...but then, I'm also up for webcams. (I'll have one regardless)
I haven't looked into the DDO closely. If they don't let you roll your own dice, that's kinda stinky. Plus, it kinda takes the fun out of the goofy role-playing interaction (IMO).
On the other hand, I'll at least be able to put my arms down.
It looks like DDO is a specific game called Stormreach. It's pretty interesting, but it's not Eberron. Also, it looks like an initial game disc purchase plus monthly subscription.
Newegg has a 2-camera "web chat kit" for $30 plus shipping. Not awesome quality, but livable. I don't know how that would work with all those windows open on our computers, though.
DDO is set in Stormreach, which is set in Eberron.
I had no intention of everyone getting into DDO instead of continuing the current game. This was just a link to historical & world info for Eberron that someone happened to throw together on a DDO forum. Basically, a person who plays real RPGs thought to school hardcore MMORPGers on the world they were hacking & slashing in.
As for webcams, I'm all about that. Brenys apparently found a good deal on sets of 2 webcam-type setups in one package, so if we buy two of those, that's one for each couple. We can use those for "interaction" and then an IM-type chatroom for dice rolling and anything people want to say text-wise.
It's definitely something to discuss at gaming this week, since we don't have much longer.
One time....on webcam...I put a flute...
Okay, the logistics of the webcam thing was getting pretty bogged down in my tiny little brain. A wisdom of 18 will only get you so far on the intertubes....
I'm getting hung up on whether we'll be able to see everyone, or if we can only video link with one other person. The company whose cam/headset combo I'm looking at doesn't give much information about multi-site video conferencing. I'm afeared we might need a server or at least a domain (which I could buy...mmmm--hardware!)
There's a site called Paltalk, which can host what we want. It's mostly free, but I can't find out much about it without downloading the software first. Anyone else know anything about this site?
Oh yes, and I do feel like something of an idiot for not reading GOD's clicky-link before my elitist ranting about "it's not Eberron" and such.
thebumrushparty.blogspot.com is very informative. The article is very professionally written. I enjoy reading thebumrushparty.blogspot.com every day.
